TIBETAN RUGS

The sheep in the high Himalayas produce the finest wool in the world. The long shank of the wool gives the yarn great strength, and the high lanolin content gives the dyed wool an amazing depth of color. The lanolin also acts a stain repellent so these rugs can survive kids and red wine, even kids with red wine for those of you who live in France.

The Tibetan knot is unique. For each row of the carpet, the yarn is woven around a rod and the height of the pile can be varied depending on the size of the rod. This technique, together with the three ply yarn we use, results in a thicker pile and softer feel than other rugs.

We produce our Tibetan rugs in Nepal. For years, carpets produced there have been almost entirely made for Western markets and generally, the washing and finishing was done in Germany and Switzerland. Now, however, our producers in Nepal have developed the most advanced dyeing, washing and finishing techniques using some of the purest waters in the world. You save a lot of time and money when your rug doesn’t have to make a stop in Europe.

Because our Tibetan rugs are three ply, the depth of color is amazing. Also, each yarn can be dyed a different color so the options for custom rugs is pretty much endless.
